Some people believe that consuming alcohol is not good or the body, it is also very addictive which is why some people drink it as is their lives depend on it and they would end up needing some professional health.

Then again, there are also some people who say that alcohol consumption is actually good for the health and it could even bring some health benefits from the body. According to experts, both are correct because it all comes down to the moderation. Alcohol is considered to be the most famous recreational drug in the world since it could definitely affect a person’s mental state as well as their mood.

Some people drink occasionally but some simply drink as if it is water and that it wouldn’t have bad effects on them. However, a new study was conducted and it was revealed that drinking alcohol actually has the power to clean the brain by removing the toxins, continue reading to find out more.

Alcohol For A Clearer Brain

A new research by scientists from the Scientific Reports has discovered that alcohol can actually help the brain be able to clean itself, but of course just a bit of it. The research was said to have experimented on mice and the researchers confirmed that this would have the same effects on humans.

According to University of Rochester Medical Center’s Dr. Maiken Nedergaard, who is the director of the Center for Transitional Neuromedicine alcohol is actually good for everything, it just so happens that people tend to have too much alcohol that it could definitely be bad for the body.

In 2012, he studied them newly found glyphatic system, wherein they distorted that sleep is essential for that particular system to function well. Just like sleep, alcohol can also help the glyphatic system. This was proven when they gave mice approximately two and half drinks.

The glyphatic systems of the mice who consumed alcohol showed improved function after the mice consumed the drinks. The mice who weren’t given the drinks didn’t show any signs of improved glyphatic system.

However, this is not the most surprising part according to Nederhaard. This is because the research also managed to find that the cells in the brain called glial cells, turned out to be less inflamed in those mice who were given alcohol. These are just some of the new findings when it comes to what exactly alcohol could do to the body. Overall, alcohol is part of the national dietary guidelines, it is even considered to help the body decrease the risk of any heart-related diseases.

However, the study from the Louisiana State University said that the moderate alcohol consumption is equivalent to one drink for women and two drinks for men. Which is why women are encouraged to have seven or fewer drinks per week and men should have less than fourteen, this is according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

What Does Moderate Drinking Do?

Medical experts say that a glass of wine or a glass of beer every night could actually be part of someone’s diet especially those who are doing the Mediterranean diet or the DASH diet. This is because a study proved how a little amount of alcohol could help the brain and the heart.

However, a new research found that not everyone’s brain could be altered and those who consume more alcohol are at risk of hippocampal atrophy, which is basically a form of brain damage that could actually affect the spatial navigation and would often lead to memory loss or conditions such as dementia.

Experts say that people shouldn’t change their lifestyle just because of a single study because everyone is different. If you are worried about consuming too much alcohol, then it’s best to get yourself checked so that you would know how your body is reacting to it. One thing is for sure though, people who drink moderately tend to get the benefits of alcohol but those who consume more tend to get the bad effects of it.

Although, people are not really honest about how much they drink, which is why some studies cannot be as accurate. According to the professor of dementia research at the University of Nottingham, Tom Denning, studies would have an even more magnified results and findings if people don’t underestimate their alcohol consumption.
