Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her Lifelong Anxiety And Depression Treatment

It is not uncommon for celebrities to deal with illnesses in the public eye, some of them try so hard to hide it, but some simply let everyone know so they could spread awareness. One of those celebrities is singer and actress Selena Gomez. Her claim to fame was starring at the Disney original television series “Wizard of Waverly Place” and is known for being one of Justin Bieber’s former girlfriends.

Rumors of Gomez and Bieber back together are spreading especially right after the 25-year-old singer underwent a kidney transplant in last year. Gomez gave the Harper’s Bazaar magazine a privilege to get a glimpse of her rough year with their March issue, wherein she talked about how she is dealing with a never-ending battle with her depression, continue reading to find out more.

Selena Gomez Bares It All

When it comes to the deadliest illness worldwide, people tend to be so surprised when they find out that it is depression. With the latest report from the World Health Organization or WHO, more than 300 million from all over the world were diagnosed with depression and according to experts, there may be more since not a lot of people pay attention to their mental health.

Depression chooses anybody, one of those people are celebrities. Despite the fame and fortune, their lives are not perfect, in fact, some of them are fighting some of the most battles, one of them even said that she may have to deal with depression for the rest of her life.

Gomez had a really tough year because of health issues, which is why when she was asked if she thinks 2018 will be a better year, she simply said that she has to focus on her well-being. This is something that she said she would definitely prioritize, Gomez even admitted that she has been dealing with so much anxiety and depression for the past few years but the 25-year-old actress said that it is something that does not think she could overcome.

This year, she said that she would start taking care of her mental and physical health, because this is basically what everyone should do and no one has to feel guilty about choosing to take care of yourself more that anything or anyone else.

Although Gomez admitted that she does not really set goals for herself because it could lead to expectations and disappointments if all else fails. When asked if she will be releasing any new songs or an album anytime soon, the singer simply said that she has always been honest about it and would say that she is not ready and does not have the confidence to get back into the game. Gomez says her focus is to have better health.

Her Lupus Battle

One of the main reasons why Gomez gave into depression and anxiety was because of her journey with Lupus. The singer and actress did not really pay attention to her illness the first time she was diagnosed until she got worse to a point that she had to have a kidney transplant. She announced her diagnosis in 2015 and admitted to having undergone chemotherapy at that time.

In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that same year, she revealed that she had no idea how to handle things because she does not know enough about it, more so explain it to the public.

Last September, Gomez finally had the courage to speak up and talk about it after undergoing a kidney transplant, courtesy of television actress and her good friend, Francia Raisa. She posted an inspirational Instagram post where she talked about what happened and even showed her surgery scar.

When asked why she decided to take her time to tell the people, she simply said that she believes that there is a time for everything and the fact that she is finally stable and is trying to be healthier makes it the best time to talk about it.

Gomez is definitely not alone in this depression battle because celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Lady Gaga, The Rock, John Hamm, and as well as millions of people all over the world are suffering from it, and unfortunately, some of them simply cannot handle it and gives into it by ending their lives. Which is why celebrities sharing their journey in such an inspirational and powerful way could definitely influence a lot of people to continue fighting to get better.
